To learn and develop skills for the fabrication, fitting, repair and maintenance of bespoke Orthotic devices to departmental standards in a cost effective manner. An orthotic technician’s main job is to manufacture the various types of orthotic devices (orthoses). These can be manufactured using a wide range of materials, including plastics, metals, leather, carbon fibre and composite materials. Many of the orthoses manufactured are bespoke, made to measure and will be designed specifically for each patient's. The technician can be involved in the design stage working with an Orthotist. The work of an orthotic technician is wide and varied and they will be required to call upon their manufacturing experience and knowledge of materials.
Five GCSE A-C grades including English, math’s and a science or engineering subject.
Level 3 Btec Certificate (delivered by an external college/provider) and a Level 3 NVQ
