Oxfordshire Discovery College's summer programme

The Dealing with Feelings Summer Programme is a one week programme taking place in Didcot for those aged 12-14.

The programme aims to develop self awareness, build a toolkit of coping strategies and communication tools and explore new ways to express emotions.

This is your opportunity to:

Have a better understanding of your emotions and how to deal with them
Meet other young people who feel like you

Who maintains the equipment & vehicles they use?
How does an emergency go from a 999 call to our fire engine arriving at the scene?
What is the difference between a Wholetime & On-Call Firefighter?
Would I be right for any of the jobs? what qualifications and skills do I need?

Come meet members of our friendly team who can answer these and any other questions you may have.

See our firefighters demonstrate the physical assessment tests taken when joining as a firefighter. Not sure if you could do it, why not have a try and get our feedback.

There are lots of benefits to doing volunteer work. It helps boost your CV, support your wellbeing, build new skills, and give back to your local community.

If you're looking for a first job or apprenticeship, doing some volunteering is a great way to get experience. This helps build your CV. It can also:

Provide you with references
Teach you new skills
Give you real experience in the workplace

Many people do volunteering whilst they are job seeking. For some, it continues to be a rewarding and successful part of the rest of their life.

There are lots of reasons to volunteer:

To develop new skills
Boost your CV
Make a difference

Young people also volunteer as part of schemes like the Duke of Edinburgh Award , National Citizen Service and at their groups or clubs or other community spaces.

Finding local volunteering opportunities

There's lots of ways to find local volunteering opportunities, including asking at libraries, visiting local charity shops and museums and checking local noticeboards.

You can also look for volunteering opportunities online:

You can also ask about volunteering opportunities at any youth club or activity group you attend.

Crucial: Wherever you volunteer, you will need to talk to the organisation, check the opportunity is right for you, and then agree what you are going to do, and when. There is often a full application process, including interviews.
