Keeping safe, happy, and well this winter

It's important to get light and fresh air at this time of year.

With celebrations and festive events taking place across the county, it's a great time to get out and about.

But it's important to think about safety.

Safe days out

Planning for unpredictable weather, longer nights, and travel disruptions can feel like a challenge.

But checking travel plans with a trusted adult, planning journeys, and checking for disruptions always helps.

If you are still worried, you can:

  1. Check weather forecast and roads
  2. Have a travel plan and a back-up
  3. Allow extra time when travelling

Where possible, travelling with friends and keeping in touch with family can help you feel safer and more confident.

Take action: If you are using public transport, checking on times, delays, and cancellations really helps.

Dangerous weather

During wet or cold weather, waterways can be very dangerous. Look out for warning signs and check routes before you travel.

Getting fresh air and exercise really helps mental health during shorter days but it is important to keep safe.

Crucial: Stay up-to-date with flood alerts and find safety advice on the Oxfordshire County Council website
