Now autumn has arrived, it's time to refresh yourself of your autumn and personal safety

This time of year can be exciting with Halloween and Bonfire Night events taking place. But with the clocks going back and nights becoming longer, it can helpful to remind yourself of your autumn safety. 

Safety when out and about

Knowing how to stay safe when out and about is always important, but especially now the days are shorter and the nights are longer. You can help keep yourself and friends safe by:

  • Having plans in place and sharing them with a trusted adult 
  • Planning your route using well-lit and busy streets
  • Looking out for the people you are with

Crucial: At this time of year the weather can also be unpredictable, so taking extra care and allowing extra time for travel and being aware of flash floods is important. 

Staying safe and having fun

Having plans to celebrate Halloween and Bonfire Night with friends can be great fun, but knowing how to enjoy these celebrations is important. 

Attending professionally organised public events is the safest way to celebrate, and you can find local firework displays online, or by checking local noticeboards.

Taking care of your mental wellbeing

Taking care of your mental wellbeing is always important. But it's especially important during the at this time of year when the weather gets colder and the nights become longer. 

Simple ways to support your mental wellbeing include:

  • Staying connected with loved ones
  • Keeping as active as you can
  • Sending time outdoors and in with nature

But if things become too much, there are people you can talk to, including a trusted adult, your School Health Nurse, and your GP.
