How We Assist Asylum Seekers

To effectively support and empathize with asylum seekers, it is crucial to recognize the immense challenges they face. These individuals often flee from dangerous and oppressive conditions in their home countries, seeking safety and a better life.

Providing meaningful assistance involves offering legal aid, access to healthcare, education, and housing. It is essential to create a welcoming environment that respects their dignity and cultural backgrounds.

Understanding their stories and experiences through active listening and compassionate engagement can help bridge the gap between asylum seekers and host communities, fostering mutual respect and integration.

Oxfordshire County Council provides essential support to support young refugees, asylum seekers and immigrants to help them integrate into the community. We offer accommodation as well as providing support as care leavers when these young individuals reach the age of 18.

Health and Wellbeing

The physical wellbeing and mental health is very important for growing children.

Oxfordshire offers support for children and young people (ages 11-19 and up to 25 with learning difficulties or disabilities) who are struggling with their health and wellbeing, focusing in mental and physical health.

Mental Health and Wellbeing

Mental health includes counselling and therapy and organisations like Oxfordshire Mind have support groups in place.

Peer support groups help young people share their feelings in a safe space, where confidentiality is very important.

Sexual Health and Wellbeing

Choosing the right contraception and making informed decisions is crucial for preventing unwanted pregnancies, maintaining sexual health and staying safe. Various types are available, such as condoms and pills as well as long-acting contraceptives such as IUDs, which are all free of charge under the NHS.

It is important to consult your GP, School Nurse or Sexual Health and Contraceptive Clinic to get confidential advice. Remember that contraception is a shared responsibility and using condoms is the only method that protects against both STIs and pregnancy.
