Finding your first job or apprenticeship can sometimes be a challenge. But exploring your options, talking to people you know, and staying motivated can all help.
We recently interviewed a local young job seeker to learn about their journey to finding the perfect apprenticeship.
Here’s what they had to say:
Why did you choose an apprenticeship? And where did you find your apprenticeship?
I chose an apprenticeship because I have to be doing something, and I like to be hands on when I learn.
After trying other routes and them being unsuccessful, I ended up hearing about the apprenticeship through a family member.
I applied online and sent my CV and cover letter to the company.
How did the EET Team help you to your first successful application?
I was put in touch with my EET Worker through RAW. They supported me with getting my CSCS card, provided motivation, and supported me with interview questions and writing my CV.
How did you find the application and interview process? Do you have any tips or advice for young people doing first interviews?
I was nervous for the interview but it was more of an informal chat and we had a good conversation.
I took my qualifications and pictures of my previous work with me.
My advice? I would say not panic or overthink and to go prepared.
What are you looking forward to most about starting your apprenticeship? Is there anything worrying you?
The two things I am most looking forward to is getting back into routine after not going to school or college, and learning because I know the more I learn, the better I’ll be.
I would say I am nervous about my first day and making mistakes, but hearing other apprentices' stories has reassured me.
What are your aims and ambitions for the future? What are you hoping to learn during your apprenticeship?
Once I am qualified and have more experience, I would like to open my own business in carpentry and become a business owner.
