Social Prescribing
Social prescribing is a service from your GP (Doctor) that helps connect you to activities, support and opportunities in your community. It supports you to improve wellbeing, confidence and everyday life - especially if you’re having difficulties, feeling stuck or have problems.
For young adults who are having difficulties like being isolated or not currently in education, employment or training (NEET), it can put you in touch with services and support in your local community.
Crucial: This service is for adults, so will not normally be available until you are 16 or 18, depending on your local service.
How does it work?
- Sports, creative activities or community groups
- Support with confidence, wellbeing or motivation
- Information and guidance about housing, money or work
Good to know: You don’t need a diagnosis, and you don’t need to be “in crisis” to get support.
Who can access social prescribing
Social prescribing is available via GP in Oxfordshire, though what’s on offer and how to access it can vary depending on where you live. Sometimes you may not be able to access the service until you are an adult (18).
The main way to access social prescribing is via your GP practice. But some social prescribing services can be accessed directly, such as:
You may be able to access social prescribing via other health or support services.
