Youth Work Week

Celebrating National Youth Work Week and the difference youth workers make to young people across Oxfordshire
News

National Youth Work Week is an annual celebration of youth work and the dedication of youth workers and trusted adults. This year the celebration takes place from 2nd to 8th November with the theme ‘Where Futures Begin’.

The theme celebrates the people and places where young people grow, belong and thrive.

Targeted Youth Support Service

This National Youth Work Week we are celebrating our Targeted Youth Support Service (TYSS), who work with local young people to raise their aspirations, build resilience and help them to reach their full potential.

The service meets the young people in their safe space, whether that be at home, school, youth centres or community settings, to offer support, guidance and safety, and to be a trusted adult to the young person outside of the home.

As well as this, the service runs activity provisions for young people, including cooking, sports, arts, and getting involved in the Holiday Activity and Food (HAF) Programme.

Good to know: You can learn more about how the service works in their Statement of Service.

How the service has helped

Hear from young people and their supporting adults on how the Targeted Youth Support Service has helped them and their families.

  • “I enjoyed everything, especially the trip to the record shop and realising I had an interest in guitar which I am now learning to play at home.”
  • “He gave me my confidence back! He made me feel happier again and I really enjoyed our time out together.
  • “He’s always been on the end of the phone and has never given up on him he deserves recognition for going above and beyond.”
  • “The relationship with his worker has been an integral part and testimony to how my son has grown in confidence. It helped us as a family feel heard and understood.”
